Feb 24, 2002 LA Times Mainstream Rock Critic Mimics Industry Do you want to see a glaring example why the mainstream music industry is just as full of shit as the industry it covers. Check out this article by a Los Angeles Times ass-kisser trying to play "rock critic". |

This music industry peon opens his propaganda with: "The Grammy Awards show producers should open the telecast Wednesday with U2's "Beautiful Day," because there's no real suspense when it comes to naming the best album this year." As if watching the band recycling the same song they played at last year's Grammys is what everybody wants to see. Didn't U2 sell this same song to an NFL Super Bowl commercial for $$$$$$$? And they weren't payed for performing at the Super Bowl you say? |
Is LA Finished As Music City? |

Sorry guy, but watching the same reruns over and over and over again, is not everybody's idea of having fun. In other words, not everybody lives in the hollow and superficial culture known as Los Angeles, where real entertainment is obviously difficult to come by. You want some more bullshit for the masses from Mr. Mainstream Rock Critic? Check this one out: "A victory would climax a remarkable 15 months for the band, whose album and world tour not only reestablished it as a critical and commercial cornerstone in rock, but also helped restore confidence in rock music's ability to inspire a mass audience." Critical and commercial cornerstone in rock? Are we talking about the same band and album here? Any kid who does not follow Britney and NSYNC can tell you that U2's latest album is conformist radio pop music. Remember, today your music has to suck big time for mainstream radio and media to pick you up like a cheap whore. "Something You Should Leave Behind" has absolutely nothing to do with the original rebellous spirit of genuine rock music. Its only purpose is to fill the bank accounts of a group of individuals who don't even give a shit about rock music anymore. And this guy is a "rock critic"? The only thing rock about U2 is the gray matter object situated inside the head of their lead singer, BoNoVoice. Real rock artists do not need the appreciation and money of today's 12 year olds to feel important. One glance at the "you busted me look" of U2's front man tells the whole story. It is no surprise that this so called rock critic is based in Los Angeles, where the home offices of U2 and their label are located. After all, life attracts life. What music journalist worth his salt would give any credibility to the Grannys, an obsolete music award show headed up by an alleged pervert? This is just another pathetic example why Los Angeles is finished as a music city. When the music media in your city starts becoming indistinguishable from the music industry they cover (both sell outs with ZERO credibility), then you know you are cooked. Hey "Rock Critic", how about looking out for the music fans next time, instead of some millionaire pimps pushing tasteless bubble gum to today's youth? Sphinx |
